15/10/2018 · Job has attended to the beasts and the birds and knows that “In [the Lord’s] hand is the life of every living thing” (Job 12:10). God’s speech to Job is then, in one sense, a confirmation of what Job already knew. God says to Job “you spoke correctly: I am the one with all the power you described.”God asks Job, “Who has put wisdom in the inward parts, or given understanding to the mind?” (Job 38:36). The answer, of course, is God. At once this both affirms our search for understanding and demonstrates its limits. The wisdom God puts in our inward parts makes it possible for us to yearn for an answer to the mystery of suffering.God's wisdom made foolish the wisdom of the world and through it no man knew God. Therefore, Job was resigned not to argue with God's wisdom and power, but he was still struggling to discern how a man can become righteous in the sight of God.
